Labradorite looks like nothing until it catches the light — then a sheet of peacock blue rolls across it. The effect has its own name, labradorescence, caused by light bouncing between microscopic internal layers.
Inuit legend has it that the northern lights were trapped in the rocks of the Labrador coast, and a warrior struck them free with his spear.
